Beautiful detail of the mining done. Great to visit to see the past. Knowledgeable staff. Great for kids and big kids
Its not very large. But for a nice walk and to take a picnic with you its ideal. Good for kids to see the history of how everything worked. They also do special events days. One of them they had an old steam engine in the courtyard actually running and you could ask questions about it and physically look how it works. If your visiting the other sites around cornwall add this to the list.
Being local and loving mining, i loved it here which lots of mine models (well into double figures) that are a delight to watch, numerous patterns, tools and parts of equipment, dressing up for children, small shop, large pumping machinery in the engine houses which you can climb right up for amazing views. The only thing lacking are interpretation boards. There are some but there's lots of areas which tools and machinery randomly positioned and nothing to explain what they are or why they are there.
We visited the museum and buildings Friday 21 September. It was very interesting and informative. It is spread over two sites and the guides were very helpful in both. A very worthwhile museum to visit, informing the visitor(s) of the rich heritage of the Cornish Tin Mining Industry.
Celebration of steam day!! So glad we decided to drop in on this place!! Lots to do for the kids, including egg and spoon race, sack race, scientific exploding experiments with vitamin c and water ( which our 2 younger boys thought was fantastic. There were a group of singers ( sorry guys can't recall the name, but fabulous) and friendly NT staff. Loved the shop!! If you're passing and have an hour pop in, you will be pleasantly surprised!!
